Court
reaffirms judge's slot ruling in Florida
October 7
In Broward County, Florida, the Fourth District Court of
Appeal reaffirmed Circuit Court Judge Leroy Moe's prior ruling on slot
machines. About 3 months ago, the judge ruled that the 4 slots gaming
facilities in the county were no longer obligated to wait for the state
Legislature to produce slots regulations, in order to install and operate
slot machines.
The slots issue has been going on since the beginning of the summer. After
Florida legislative authorities kept delaying the issuance of relevant
regulations, the argument ensued. The Circuit Judge ordered lawmakers to
generate the regulations
by the first day of July, after they failed to produce the regulations, he
sanctioned four Broward pari-mutuels to run slots. After that, an appeal filed by
a Broward State Attorney
stopped the slots casinos from accomplishing the ruling.
In turn, the pari-mutuels, attorney at law Tom Julin represented, went to
the courts again, and the judge allowed them to operate slots despite the
State Attorney's
appeal.
This additional ruling marks the 2nd time the judge ruled positively on
the slots matter.
Determined to take the matter further, the State Attorney vows to keep
going.
