AT first online slots players believed
that the damage left behind from Hurricane Katrina was mostly minor to the
giant Beau Rivage Casino in Biloxi. Now, it seems that the casino resort
that employed over 3,000 people
is majorly damaged by the storm surge brought-on by the devastating storm
that hit at the end of August.
The
$800 million mega resort on the Gulf Coast proved different after a closer
look inside the resort buildings.
Now the resort's Las Vegas-based parent company, MGM
Mirage Inc., predicts the Beau Rivage will be the single-biggest loss of any of
the 13 casinos lining the Mississippi coast.
Administrators now believe that repairs will cost a
staggering amount of money. What's more, the resort with just over 1,700 hotel
rooms could cost hundreds of millions of dollars and take well over a year to
complete.
The outer walls of th ecasino resort were built to last -
and they did. It is the contents inside as well as flood damage that has changed
the companies outlook for a quick recovery.
Architects who studied the Beau Rivage say it is
structurally sound because the design helped diminish and deflect the force of
the major winds. The barge on which the casino rested managed to remain in place
thanks to the oil-rig technology used to construct it. Even the bordering marina
escaped the storm's fury for the most part.
Power has yet to be restored to the entire building, but
some areas of the resort and casino do have capabilities.
